Watch Spotting: Rihanna Wears A 47mm Baguette-Set Jacob & Co. Watch As A Choker During Paris Fashion Week

When it comes to wearing clothes and accessories, there are no rules for Bad Gal Riri. Whether you deem her approach fearless, or avant- grade or even – dare I say it – attention-hungry (if you think this, I’m sorry but you are wrong because Rihanna’s outfits are always perfect), she plays by her own rules. She’s ever the talking point when it comes to fashion choices from meme-worthy Guo Pei Met gala dresses to Lil Kim homages to naked crystal dresses with matching crystal du-rags. Let’s not forget her long accolade of gem-set watch moments and her recent diamond toe ring (because why not!).

Cut to last night in Paris. Pharrell Williams was presenting his debut collection for Louis Vuitton menswear at Paris Fashion Week. Undoubtedly one of the biggest pop-culture moments of the year, everyone was sitting front row: Jay-Z and Beyonce, Lewis Hamilton, Offset, Kim Kardashian, and LeBron James. Pusha T walked the actual runway. Jay-Z and Pharrell performed live… together! It was a spectacle. But Rih and Rocky stole the celebrity guest limelight as they sauntered in late wearing matching Pharrell for LV outfits. Did my eyes deceive me as I scrolled through close-up images of the couple on Instagram, or was Rihanna really  wearing a Jacob and Co. diamond watch around her neck?

My first reaction went somewhere along the lines of “Omg, ugh, I can’t believe I didn’t think of this first” The jealousy subsided and it became more of a  “Rihanna is so flawless I could cry.”

Unexpected, yet sort of weirdly perfect, Rihanna wore the 30k Brilliant Flying Tourbillon watch on a white calfskin, alligator stamped, strap. Keep in mind this was no delicate, dainty Cartier, or Piaget case. No, it was a full 47mm, white gold, flying tourbillon, fully set with 30 karats of baguette-cut white diamonds (plus another 338 brilliant-cut diamonds set onto the movement). All yours for $670,000 if you’re interested.

I was also reminded of the time Princess Diana fashioned a choker out of a ring and watch, gifted to her by the then Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia. She wore it as a headpiece. Fearless women making fearlessly bold sartorial moves speak volumes and are often a symbol of them frankly not caring what anybody thinks.

I like to imagine that all of the best Rihanna red carpet moments will be referenced for years to come. That one day, 40 years from now when stylists and designers are hitting the books for inspiration, Riri will always be front of mind. Like Cher in her 1970s heyday or Kate Moss in ’90s Vogue spreads and Calvin Klein ads. Here’s hoping that last night’s choker will make it into Rihanna’s (sartorial) greatest hits.
