Happenings: The Hour Glass To Host ‘IAMWATCH 2024’ In Singapore This October

Spread the love

From Friday, October 18, to Sunday, October 20, the team at The Hour Glass is bringing some of the best independent watchmakers and industry greats together for a casual and tropical event in Singapore. Those who have been around for a while will know The Hour Glass as a retail powerhouse that helped foster the rise of independent watchmaking. The event features a confirmed slate of “who’s who” in the indie space (and some of the best independent watches you’ll ever see all in one place).

“The IAMWATCH 2024 platform is not just about showcasing artisanal watchmaking; it’s an opportunity for meaningful engagement and discourse,” says Michael Tay, Group Managing Director of The Hour Glass. “We have curated a series of GTGs, insightful lectures by writer David Rooney on the evolution of timekeeping and designer Lee Yuen-Rapati on watch typography; masterclasses by Jean-Claude Biver and Maximilian Büsser; and conversations with watchmakers, designers, and tastemakers. IAMWATCH 2024 will be an unparalleled opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts to explore today’s horological landscape.”

Across the days of IAMWATCH, you’ll have a chance to meet and listen to talks from a wide range of great watchmakers, collectors, auction houses, and more. A quick scan of the website shows names like Gaël Petermann, Rémy Cools, Theo Auffret, Felix Baumgartner, Kari Voutilainen, Rexhep Rexhepi, Jean Arnault, and many more. The topics range from lessons in business to more introspective looks at the soul of independent watchmaking and even breakfasts hosted by some of the brands and watchmakers themselves.

While some folks in New York and the rest of the United States will be attending Watch Time and Windup Watch Fair that same weekend, IAMWATCH ensures enthusiasts based in Asia aren’t left out of the festivities. I’ll be making the trip on behalf of Hodinkee, moderating a panel about design and what makes an icon, speaking with Benoît Mintiens of Ressence, Gautier Massonneau of Trilobe, and designer Lee Yuen-Rapati. Admission is free but if you’re interested in attending our talk (or any other portion of the event), you must pre-register for the sessions online at the IAMWATCH website. I’ll see you in tropical Singapore.
