Hands-On: Uncomplicating The Complicated Bulgari Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT

Spread the love

I knew nothing about how Jean-Antoine Lépine had spent much of his life trying to make watches thinner by getting components all on one level. I knew nothing about hanging and non-hanging bridges, or that the rotor (the part that makes a self-winding watch work) takes up a lot of space and that is why the RM UP-01 has replaced the rotor with a little winding stem. I knew nothing about how the people at Bulgari, who mostly made jewelry, started to make watches and needed to make their mark at being good at this, and so they got into thinness, because, in the world of watches, where people get super excited about tiny shit getting even tinier, thinness is a way of saying to the world: We do not just look fabulous, we are good at everything. Otherwise, we would not look quite so good.
