Introducing: The Doxa Sub 300T Professional Aristera Limited Edition
What We Know
Southpaw Doxa nerds unite! As part of the brand’s Geneva Watch Days plan, they have just announced the first-ever lefty Doxa, the Sub 300 Professional Aristera. This new model is limited to just 300 units, only available in “Professional” orange, and has a distinctive aluminum bezel insert.
For those curious, “Aristera” is Greek for “left,” and Doxa’s own name comes from the Greek word for “glory.” Regardless of nomenclature, this lefty 300T maintains much of what makes the standard model a lynchpin of Doxa’s lineup, including a steel case that measures 42.5mm (14mm thick and 44.5mm l2l) and has a helium escape valve, 1,200 meters of water resistance, and a unidirectional bezel (with an Aubry-era inspired aluminum bezel insert) that shows both elapsed time and a no-deco scale derived from the early days of SCUBA diving.
Despite moving the crown to the left side of the case, the dial (and date) remain in the standard positioning, meaning the movement has been rotated and modified to suit the lefty layout. Inside, this 300T follows suit with a Sellita SW200-1, a Swiss-made automatic that ticks at 4 Hz and has a power reserve of 38 hours.
Limited as a numbered edition of 300 pieces at $2,490 per unit, the Sub 300T Professional Aristera is available for pre-order via Doxa or authorized dealers, with delivery slated for October of this year.
What We Think
As far as Doxa limited editions go, I really like this move as it makes for an interesting and distinctive iteration of the 300T without really occluding all that makes the 300T a classic. The left-handed layout is a bit strange (in a good way, to be clear), and the aluminum bezel is a nice touch to further underline a non-casual element that will be instantly recognizable to Doxa acolytes.
Given its largely similar appearance to that of a standard 300T (especially to a layman), I’d expect this model to be quite the hit with Doxa collectors – some of whom must certainly be left-handed. That said, much like the lefty GMT-Master II from a few years ago, I don’t see the appeal as being limited to those who wear their watch on their right wrist – it’s just a cool and esoteric sort of offering.
Alongside this new limited edition release, Doxa also announced that the brand’s most recent dial color – Sea Emerald – has expanded to the wider range of Doxa’s lineup, including the Sub 300T, the Sub 300, the 600T, and even the Sub 300 Carbon.
