Vintage Watches: A Market Update And Trend Report Fresh Off The Original Miami Beach Antique Show
The watch side of the Antique Show was more than just the Menta/Wind corner, of course. Kevin O’Dell, an extremely astute collector in attendance, said “Matthew Bain had the best stuff at his booth, all in all, a ton of quality watches like Patek Calatravas all the way to very rare Cartiers and weird little clocks.” Remember that black-dial ref. 6238? Bain bought it on the first day of the show. Meanwhile, Kevin also drooled over (not literally I hope) an Italian collector with a full set, all metals and dials, of Patek Philippe ref. 3970s. Beyond viewing the incredible watches, Kevin was impressed by the overall enthusiasm of the show “not for the market but for the watches and community.” For a hobby that can lean towards being a little bit too much online, O’Dell was happy to meet “a lot of people for the first time that I knew from Instagram, every night there were dinners with 10 to 15 people, the whole show was very community driven.”
