Introducing: The New Panerai Luminor Marina Collection, With New Movement And New Measurements
What We Know
Panerai has just launched a subtle but meaningful refresh of what most collectors consider their core modern collection: the Luminor Marina. They have improved the movement thickness, quality, finishing, and water resistance while shrinking the overall thickness by 12%. Despite these upgrades, Panerai has wisely preserved the distinctive aesthetic DNA that has long captivated collectors and defined the brand’s unique identity.

The Panerai Luminor Marina ref. PAM03314 in steel.
The new line comes in both steel (with blue, black, and white sunburst dials) on strap and steel bracelet (only with a blue dial) or the Luminor Marina Titano with a green sunburst dial and grey strap. The dials are still sandwich dials with Super-LumiNova X2. The new steel case is made of Panerai’s AISI 316LVM – 1.4441 stainless steel and weighs 15% less. It is vacuum arc remelted to maximize purity and corrosion resistance. The titanium case is Grade 5 and saves 44% on weight versus the old stainless models.
All of the models now measure 44mm by 13.7mm with display casebacks but maintain 500m of water resistance. Whether on strap or bracelet, all models now have the PAM Click release, their quick-change system, and the bracelet now has a new 4mm quick micro-adjust built in.

The movement is a big improvement. The P.980 brings back the stop-seconds function that was quietly (and dramatically) removed in 2020. The display caseback proudly shows off that the brand has also brought back some level of finishing with brushing that had been removed at the same time. The power reserve is the solid 72 hours you’d want from a Panerai.

Prices range from $8,800 in steel on strap to $9,700 for the steel model on bracelet or titanium case. None of the products are limited editions.
What We Think
There’s a lot to unpack with these new releases. As we wade through a lot of Watches and Wonders content, sometimes core releases like this can seem like a blur. And yet, as I read through the press release and filled in the specs for the story, I felt myself raising my eyebrows and going, “Check, Check, Check – oh wow, this seems really solid.”

The scaling back/downgrading of the predecessor’s P.9010 movement was objectively mishandled by Panerai, no matter the rationale for why it was done. If you don’t know about that moment back in 2020, I will write more of a refresher at a later date. It’s hard not to see this as an effort to rebuild some goodwill with a strong release. The price lands about the same as in the past, which, unfortunately, has seemed a little high judging by the secondary market. But as for the rest of my thoughts, I’ll save them for a Hands-On soon.
Stay tuned for more over the coming days from Watches and Wonders – you can follow all of the show’s new releases right here.
