Introducing: Bulova x Complecto Super Seville Stone Dial Collection

What We Know

Bulova and Complecto (the New York-based community dedicated to inclusivity, authenticity, and representation) have teamed up for a new release of three quartz-driven Super Seville watches with real stone dials that give a bit of throwback to the 1970s when the original release first came out.

In 37.5mm by 10.5mm stainless steel cases, left silver or toned for yellow or rose gold, the new Super Seville Stone Dial collection features real turquoise, tiger’s eye, or snowflake obsidian dials varying in price from $1,095 to $1,295. The watches are powered by the Bulova NM10 Precisionist movement, giving accuracy within seconds over a year’s timeframe and showing hours, minutes, seconds, and date. The watch features a fully brushed bracelet that’s integrated into that TV-shaped case. The watches are limited to 718 pieces in each stone dial, a nod to the NYC area code for Bulova’s former home in Queens.

What We Think

I got to see these watches in person a few weeks ago, and I really enjoyed them. There’s a certain “Rolex Day-Date Oysterquartz Stone Dial” or “Texano Datejust” vibe to them at an affordable price that allows people to scratch an itch that they otherwise might never scratch. Despite how often I write about the extremely high-end market, I genuinely believe that everyone should have access to various stylistic options that make them feel like they have a place in the community and that the industry cares about them as customers. All the more appropriate, then, is that this idea comes from the mind of Jason Gong, founder of Complecto, who is dedicated to making sure that everyone in the watch world feels accepted and valued.

At 718 pieces each, it’s not a particularly “limited” Limited Edition, but I think that’s okay. I’m sort of burned out on brands capitalizing on FOMO to try to drive people to buy something immediately. Not every watch that doesn’t sell out immediately is a “failure,” nor does an immediate sellout (in the age of hype brands and “drops”) make something good. I expect that these stone dials will be available for a while, so if you are the kind of buyer who puts a lot of thought into each and every penny you spend, mull it over and then decide for yourself. My personal take is that they’re quite cool.
